Principles for My Life
The English note this site is built on. I wrote it for myself more than ten years ago, keeping the source wording almost as it stands. The rest of this site is in Japanese.
Principles for My Life ====================== Be a light, not a judge. Be a model, not a critic. Principle-Centered Living ------------------------- - Be Continually Learning * - Be Service-Oriented ** - Radiate Positive Energy * - Believe in Other People ** - Lead a Balanced Life * - See Life as an Adventure * - Be Synergistic ** - Exercise for Self-Renewal *** * Primary human endowments ** Secondary human endowments *** Renewal endowment Habits and Endowments --------------------- All are unique human endowments; animals don't possess any of them. But they all exist on a continuum, from low to high. ### The 7 Habits 1. Be Proactive 2. Begin with the End in Mind 3. Put First Things First 4. Think Win-Win 5. Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood 6. Synergize 7. Sharpen the Saw ### Endowments The primary human endowments are: 1. Self-Awareness or Self-Knowledge 2. Imagination and Conscience 3. Volition or Willpower The secondary human endowments are: 4. Abundance Mentality 5. Courage and Consideration 6. Creativity The renewal endowment is: 7. Self-Renewal
This note quotes its sources closely. The eight items under “Principle-Centered Living” come from chapter 1 of Principle-Centered Leadership, “Characteristics of Principle-Centered Leaders” (the original reads They Are Continually Learning and so on); I put them in the imperative for my own use. The seven habits are quoted as written.
The Japanese version of this page is not a translation. I rewrote it in my own words, and that is the version I hand to people.
Quoted from Stephen R. Covey, Principle-Centered Leadership (Summit Books, 1991), chapter 1, and The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People (Free Press, 1989). The two opening lines are from Habit 1 of the latter; the original runs to three lines, ending “Be part of the solution, not part of the problem.” This site is a personal record. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the author, the publishers, or FranklinCovey.
